This month’s issue of The Adopted Life is about the Bible – what it is and how we read it in the light of the Trinity and humanity being united in Jesus Christ.

On page 1 Jonathan Stepp talks about reading the Old Testament in a Christ-centered way in his article “Jesus, the Bible, and the Sacrifices.” Jonathan says:

A loving Father doesn’t say “do wrong and I’ll kill you.”

John Stonecypher asks “Who-ology?” on page 2. John points out that:

Just as Master Yoda is not The Force, Master Paul is not the Great Dance.  Rather, he is guiding me toward participation in the Dance that is greater than both of us.

In “Not By Might”, on page 4, Jerome Ellard talks about Jesus’ dialogue with the Rich Young Man:

Jesus seems to go along with the Rich Young Man’s flawed logic by  actually describing what it looks like to PARTICIPATE in (“enter”) the adopted life Christ has already given us.

In “Eye of the Needle”, on page 5, Jonathan Stepp discusses how:

There have been many attempts to explain—and explain away—Jesus’ statement in Matthew 19:24.

On page 6 Tim Brassell talks about the story of Martha and Mary and encourages us to “Be Distracted By Jesus and the Trinity”. Tim asks:

When were you so distracted by Jesus recently that you missed out on work, or overtime at work? Missed supper? Missed TV?

On page 9 we reprint a poem about Martha and Mary by Lois Reynolds Carpenter.

And finally, on page 10, Jonathan Stepp briefly discusses the “The Bible and The Nicene Creed”.

We pray this August Issue will help you as you look through the window of the Scripture to see Jesus at the Father’s right and hand and the whole creation in him.
