The Adopted Life February 2010

The Adopted Life February 2010 Text Only

This month’s issue is another celebration of the Spirit’s work to help us all see humanity’s adoption in Jesus as children of the Father. Here’s some highlights:

On page 1, John Stonecypher takes on the nature of hell in “Thank You, Father, For Eternally Punishing Me.” John says:

. . . God is not torturing me. He is loving me. My pain comes from the conflict between his love and my stubborn belief that his love cannot be real.  My pain comes from beating my head against the wall of reality, demanding that God repent and convert to my point of view . . .

On page 4, Brad Campbell writes about “The ‘Easy Burden’ and ‘Light Yoke’ of Jesus.” Brad points out that:

. . . we can trust that the Father is who Jesus revealed him to be. The entire human race is included and invited into the abundant joy of that perfect relationship in Him.

In “Our Common Witness” (page 6) Doug Johannsen talks about the journey of Grace Communion International (GCI) from legalism to the good news of the Trinity and humanity together in Jesus. Doug says:

. . . by focusing on our Common Witness (that is, JESUS), transformation of not just an individual, but an entire community, and an entire denomination is indeed possible.

On page 9 Lee Berger offers a review of The Jesus Storybook Bible, which he says:

. . . is recommended for ages 4-7, but I believe adolescents, teens, middle-aged and senior adults will appreciate the simple but profound telling of the Story in a fresh way.

On page 11 Jonathan Stepp answers the question “I Don’t Need to Go to Church, Do I?” His answer is:

We need to go to church because the Holy Trinity has called us there for our own good and for the good of others.

Finally, on page 12, we have a quote from Athanasius of Alexandria on the restoration of mankind.

We pray you will continue to know and grow in the Father’s love for you in Jesus and that the Spirit’s work through The Adopted Life will be part of that process!
